About Us

Robert A. Murphy is a 28-year education veteran, youth development leader, and author recognized for driving measurable, system-level impact across schools and communities. During his tenure at the Maryland State Department of Education, Murphy led statewide initiatives to reform school discipline, reduce dropout rates, and expand alternative education programs. His leadership contributed to a more than 50% reduction in suspensions, a 20% decrease in dropout rates, and a 10% increase in graduation rates across partnering districts. Notably, graduation rates for African American males increased by 13% under his guidance.

Murphy later served as Director of Student Services at the Lake Forest School District, where he oversaw fourteen key program areas, including trauma-informed practices, school discipline, McKinney-Vento services, and equity initiatives. His work led to a 20% reduction in suspensions and student referrals while strengthening systems of support for vulnerable student populations.

He is the author of Ni@$as Ain’t Astronauts: Love and Trauma in American Family, which Kirkus Reviews described as “a powerful, sometimes poetic account of Black life in America,” and named a Kirkus Best of selection. The memoir also received a 5-star review and was recognized as a top nonfiction submission at the Hollywood Book Festival.

Murphy is the founder and proprietor of Comprehensive Discipline Solutions (CDS), a human services and education consulting firm that partners with schools, districts, and state agencies to deliver strategic, data-driven solutions.
